Lump on neck

I have had a lump in my neck about 2.5inches down from my left ear in side of my neck for a few weeks now , it started off about the size of a peanut now its the size of a large grape . Went to docs today as I've had other symptoms being over tired and feeling generally exhausted after doing very little , been eating OK but losing weight , headaches and generally feeling flu like with fever chills on and off my whole body aches down to the bones , itchy scalp and skin I clawed my fingers the other night to the point of bleeding and even had to take my wedding ring off ! Which has been happening way before the lump was noticed but no sign of infection or virus happening ... doctor checked my throat and ears and couldn't see any sign of infection at all from her checks ... felt the lump and sent a referral for immediate attention ( appointment within 2 weeks ) and give me a blood form with a full blood count , liver check , bone check thyroid check and other ones to do tomorrow at the blood test clinic . I got a call the same day with an appointment made for 2 weeks time , has anyone had these signs and symptoms and  been given the all clear ? I'm trying to think positive and hope there is people out there who has had a positive outcome and not the bad kind ! Thank you for reading x

  • Hello Aimz88,

I am sorry to hear about this lump you have had for a few weeks now and which seems to have grown in size. You did well to go to the doctor's to have it looked at and it's great that they are being thorough and doing all the tests required. It is bound to be a stressful time for you though as you are waiting to find out more. It's good though that things are moving fast and you have an appointment in two weeks. I hope that you won't have to wait long too for your blood test results.

I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious. There are helpful tips on this page to help you cope while waiting for important news. You are right to try and keep positive if you while you are waiting to know more.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,

  • Thank you for your reply . It means alot , I'm just trying to reach out to anyone who has been told its nothing and all is OK  , I understand that not everyone's is the case and I truly don't wanna think the worse outcome for me but it will be what it will be ! I've been reading through alot of posts on here with similar to mine and their outcome hasn't been a happy one so that's a little disheartening to see .

  • Hi

ot sounds like wat I'm going thru tho my is a lot more long winded.

basically my lump which many health people thought was a swollen gland was a cyst after many scans they decided to remove the cyst quiet happy that it was just a cyst.

however once removed with the lymph node they done a biopsy they found cancer cells.

so another opp to remove tonsillis and look for the primary cancer they found it on my tongue.

im starting chemo and radio in a week or 2 7 weeks all in all and then it should be gone.

it's quite common 2 friends of mine have had it and found no cancer.

your body has a early warning system and you have done everything right.

try not to over worry easier said than done I know but if it is cancer it's treatable if not your doing everything right.

    good luck

  • I had my bloods results and white blood cells was slightly off but all the rest OK,  had my ultrasound and biopsy today.... they said have found abnormal white blood cell clusters and they need to do a bigger biopsy just to get more samples from the large lymph node in my neck . Is this normal I didn't ask questions unfortunately as I hate the smell of hospitals I was feeling sick and just wanted some fresh air! But now my brain is going absolutely nuts ....

  • So I've had an appointment made before my 2ww core biopsy following the first one and its for maxillofacial surgeon. I'm not sure what to expect anymore , I don't understand why an appointment has been made for that department without my core biopsy being done . Still not sure why a larger biopsy is needed either . So confused
