First Oncology appointment with no diagnosis.

Hi,

I was referred to haematology last week due to having an enlarged spleen. I had more bloods taken too. Today I had a call to have an appointment with Oncology on Friday.

I'm now extremely worried because the Dr had said she didn't think it's cancer because my symptoms have been ongoing for over a year now (itching, might sweats, breathing issues). Does this appointment mean that I likely do have cancer? Or is it likely to be for extra tests to be sure one way or the other?

What should I expect at the appointment?

  • Hi am babe

I thibk a oncologist is a specialist  in cancer in giving treatment , I'm not sure why you would have a appointment with a oncologist without any diagnosis that's strange x

  • Yeah, as the other person stated, an oncologist deals with the treatment side of things, not the diagnostics.

Haematology tends to have close ties with Oncology and often appear together on letter heads, signage etc. Similar to how obstetrics and gynaecology are usually intertwined.

Did she state Haematology and Oncology, or just the latter?

  • This could be my answer. I don't recall them saying who the appointment was with, but to go to the oncology department. Of course that's then all I could remember. It looks like it'll be a haematology appointment then not oncology. I just hope that's as far as this thing goes and it's something not so serious.

Thank you both for your replies :)
