Suspected polyp on womb and large ovarian cyst

Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone has been through anything similar and can offer some advice. I've been bleeding vaginally for the last 4 months, after a vaginal ultrasound I've been diagnosed with multiple cysts on both ovaries (the largest being 5.6cm on my right ovary and 3.7cm on my left ovary), and a thickening of the endometrial lining 15mm which they said could be a polyp. I'm now awaiting bloods and a referral to a gynaecologist, but am really concerned the thickening could be cancer. I'm 40 and I suppose I've always worried about getting cancer in my 40's after my mum was diagnosed with breast cancer at 45 and died at 53.

Thanks for any advice

  • I went to the GP with the same symtoms plus some others at the end of June.  I also had mutlple cysts on both ovaries (5.5 and 3.5 being the largest) and an endometrial lining of 14.9. I had blood tests, hysteroscopy and womb biospsies, CT scans and MRI SCAN within the next 10 days and all test results came back clear of cancer. Its easy to think the worst and I wish you all the best as you go through the process and hope you have the same outcome as me.

  • Thanks so much for your reply Leni56, that's really reassuring. Glad it all turned out ok for you, it must have been a worrying time. Luckily I'm getting my bloods done today so at least that will reassure me if my CA125 comes back ok, as I've got to wait up to 3 months to see the gynaecologist!
