Cervical polyp is it cancer?

Hi everyone I'm new here and am worried about a appointment next week. I went for my smear at the start on the year and the nurse found a small cervical polyp and I was referred to the hospital to have it removed. The smear results came back normal and 5/6 weeks ago I had the polyp removed and the doctor said it looked ok and will get results in 6/8 weeks. Had the follow up letter that goes to the gp saying small polyp found and removed will contact yourself(gp) and patient with results and we have discharge her back to your care. Last week had a phone call from the hospital to make a appointment, I'm going next week so within 7 days this is likely for the results does this mean that they will be bad? The fact that I was discharged back to the gp and now have to go back must be bad news, has anyone else had any experience with follow up appointments. Thanks for your time.

  • Hi Claire,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I can understand your concerns; try not to assume anything, although I know it's natural to worry, and the uncertainty is never easy to deal with.

It sounds like you've received some reassurance so far, although of course only the appointment will give the answers you need. Try in the meantime to take things slowly, one day at a time, and to keep busy to help keep your mind off things.

I hope it's not too much longer to wait for the appointment, and in the meantime hopefully you'll receive further replies here.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben

  • Hi, Thank you for your kind words,

I no I have had no other reply's on my post but thought I would post the outcome of the appointment in case it is of use to anyone else. So after much stress over the last week it turns out that I had to attend the hospital because they needed to inform me that they had accidentally not labelled the polyp which was sent for sampling. It was basically to apologise in person and let me no it should not have happened  and to reassure me that it looked ok but they can't be 100% sure. The doctor said out of x amount of samples taken that day all the others were back and one with no name on and my name was not on the list of results from that day so they are confident that it is mine and is ok but can't be 100%. I'm very relieved as I was thinking the worst being called in for a follow up appointment after being discharged back to the gp. For anyone reading I was convinced of the worst but it seems to have turned out ok but I wish everyone the best of luck in the future.

  • Thanks for posting an outcome to your situation.  It helps folk like me two years on worried about a polyp. Well wishes
