Breast Biopsy and Titanium markers

Hi

I feel bad writing this thread, because my biopsy came back cancer free and I should feel so lucky ( I do) and not moan..
So I had biopsies taken in July for calcifications seen on mammogram. And titanium seed markers implanted.
I thought I'd healed well, all swelling pain and brushing gone after a month. However about week 4 the biopsy site got more and more painful. And the pain is definitely internal, I presume at biopsy site. So, if I press where the pain is , it's not tender to the touch , but this burning, stabbing ,throbbing pain is now pretty unbearable. Am certain not an infection, it just doesn't feel like that . It's been constant for 4 weeks now, and wakes me up at night. I'm taking painkillers but this just doesn't feel right. I know I will get fobbed off if I call GP, I know how overwhelmed primary and secondary NHS services are ( am a nurse) . I'm wondering if it's anything to do with the markets left in breast tissue ( all official data etc says absolutely no evidence they cause any probs if left in) Has anyone else experienced this, please?

  • Hello WeeWitch and a big welcome to Cancer Chat,

It's really good news that your biopsy came back cancer free - what a relief it must have been for you. It's a shame though that you have been suffering from this pain for the last four weeks and as it wakes you up at night, it's definitely a good idea to call the GP. Don't worry even if they are very busy at the moment, they will be happy to look after you and I think given your symptoms and the intense pain you have been experiencing for four weeks, it's worth talking to a medical expert about it.

I am not sure if it could be related to the markers left in the breast tissue but when you see your GP you could mention you had these titanium markers implanted and ask whether it could be linked to that.

I hope that you will hear from others on the forum who have experienced this before and that they will come and share their experience with you.

    Best wishes,
