Visible lump on neck

Hi, I've never posted before but am hoping for some advice. Ive had extreme HA over the years so I apologise if I offend anyone who generally has cancer.

i recently went to the doctor because I notice on the front of my neck there is a lump (feels like it's sticking out). I'm not sure how long or if it's ever been like that... first thing she said was my lymph nodes was quite prominent but don't worry you haven't got cancer I'm not going down that route!. Going in cancer did not cross my mind because I know millions of people get lumps. She said she will book me in for bloods and only if it comes back to do with thyroids she will book me in for an ENT. So now im sat in a mess- blood test isn't for another two weeks and i can't stop prodding my neck/Googling. Can someone please give me some advice on how to stop worrying. I had a breakdown on my last health scare.

  • Hi Emma and welcome to the forum.

I'm very sorry for the stress and anxiety this lump and the 2 week wait for your blood test is causing.

As many of our members will tell you, Dr Google is not very helpful in these situations so if you can, stop doing this from now as it will only make any worries or fears you have about this worse. Always easier said than done, but if you can, try and distract yourself with things you enjoy doing, or just something that keeps your mind busy instead as it will help time go more quickly and stop you from worrying as much.

Hopefully some of our members will offer their tips and advice to you soon but in the meantime I hope this article on how to cope with waiting for news and the tips for managing anxiety on the NHS Every Mind Matters website will help as well.

Fingers crossed everything will turn out o.k for you Emma.

    Kind regards,
