Scan of thyroid found nodules but told no follow up

I've been having neck pains and was referred for an ultrasound.

Had US today and the radiologist told me that I have nodules but they are benign and indicative of chronic disease.

Obviously this will go back to my GP now, but I want to know if I should push for anything else or if an US is the standard and they can see enough using that method to be sure?

  • I am 5 days post surgery for thyroid removal due to cancer after having 3 nodules discovered during US. Whilst being done he felt something wasnt right and sent report back to GP over night who then referred me to a specialist. If they said all is good then don't worry.

They can tell by the shape of a nodule if it is anything to worry about and do a Fine Needle Aspiration to test for cancer. Nodules a fairly common and people have them without knowing.

To put your mind at rest have a chat with your GP about another scan in the future. Or ask for a biopsy.

My diagnosis and treatment was done in 8 weeks so I really didnt have time to get my head around the diagnosis.

Just waiting for biopsy of removed thyroid and review appointment to see where I go from here.

Hope your mind is at rest soon.

  • Thank you that's very interesting and reassuring.  I'll do as you suggest.

Best wishes for a speedy and full recovery. X
