Colposcopy with Pipelle biopsy

Hi all,

Seeking some re-assurance and advice.

I am 42 and have been having extreme pain (period like, but worse) for the last 6 weeks along with irregular bleeding. Today I had a colposcopy with a pipelle endometrial biopsy and I am lying here tonight in agony. The pain I already had is so much worse.

Is this normal?

I am awaiting a hysteroscopy but I don't seem to be getting anywhere with actually getting a date for this. I've been waiting 5 weeks and I'm meant to be classed as urgent.

The pain is ruling my life at the moment. Not sleeping or eating. I just don't know what to think anymore

  • Hello Nicky1979

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently had some health concerns and that you've had a biopsy this week. I hope that the post-procedure pain you were experiencing has now settled but if not, do get in touch with your GP or the hospital unit you attended for some advice.

It's understandable that you may be feeling worried, anxious, and frustrated by the whole situation. We know that many people who are referred urgently to the hospital are currently experiencing delays. Hopefully, you won't have to wait too long for the results of the biopsy this week and the team responsible for your care will be able to give you some reassurance.

I'm presuming that your GP has already spoken about pain relief to try and manage your symptoms but if they haven't then do get in touch with them and let them know how this is impacting your daily quality of life. Hopefully, they will be able to help with something to manage this pain in the short term.

If you'd like to talk things through with one of our team of nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

I hope that things settle and improve for you soon.

    Best wishes,
    Jenn
