Endoscopy and colonoscopy results

Hi there

I had a colonoscopy and endoscopy on Saturday .( I have had bowel changes , stomach pain and choking on food )
The  colonoscopy came back clear of cancer for which I am so relieved but I have a redundant colon ( far too  much colon than most people ) which is causing the change in bowel habits .
The endoscopy was awful I asked for sedation but they didnt give me much as they said they could only sedate me once I'd swallowed the camera ( I'm so claustrophobic ) it resulted In me trying to pull the scope out of my mouth so they then put some liquid into the Canula . I heard the doctor say " oh goodness there's a lot going on down there " and then I retched and they took the camera out.

The results they gave me were Polyps , biopsy and he said I have a red patch in my gullet .
I saw my GP today , she's given me Lanzoprazel for my heartburn and a wait of 6 weeks for biopsy results

If it is anything serious would they contact me sooner than that . I'm not a worrier but am a bit anxious about it

regards Lisa

  • Hello Lisa

I'm sorry to hear that you have some ongoing health issues. It's good to hear that your colonoscopy didn't give any cause for concern. I'm sure it was a relief to have had some good news during your procedures.

We know that for many people this period of uncertainty and waiting for results can be difficult. It's natural to feel anxious about the results of your biopsy. You can't change the outcome of those tests, all you can do in the meantime is try to remain positive and take good care of yourself.

If you'd like to talk things through with one of our team of nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm. I'm sure they will be happy to listen and offer any advice and support that they can.

Hopefully, you won't have to wait too long for your results. Let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
    Jenn
