Dodgy mole

Hi everyone

This is more of an offload than anything else, I have a mole at the bottom of my cheek that has appeared over the last year, it is pink in colour with what I can only describe as pin prices of a different colour at either side, it does often bleed and is slightly scabby and can be very itchy.

Anyway have called gp for an appointment as I have become worried about it and have an appointment for next Saturday (17th) I am impatient so contacted a dermatologist online and sent over a picture, he came back saying it was concerning and needed to get it checked ASAP as it could be  an amelanotic melanoma, of course this has sent me into a panic, I'm wishing I hadn't asked and also worried if the dermatologist was genuine or not (I know stay away from the internet) so do I contact doctors surgery again tomorrow to try and get an emergency appointment or sit tight for my routine one next week?

Sorry for long post but I'm just a bit concerned and haven't told any of my family as dont want to cause panic if its not needed if that makes sense!

Thanks for taking the time to read

  • Hi,

I can understand your concern. You have nothing to lose by trying to get your appointment being brought forward. Hopefully they can do that. I probably wouldn't mention the online dermatologist - although they may be well qualified to give advice, your GP may not take kindly to online advice.

I know it's a worrying wait but if they can't bring your appointment forward, an extra few days won't make things worse. If you can't wait, your only other option is to get your mole scanned and checked - this service is provided by some branches of a very well established, high street pharmacy (sorry, I don't think I'm allowed to give their name). Check out their website but please know that it may take a week so it may not be any quicker than your GP appointment.

Good luck and please let us know how you get on.
