Lump in breast

Hi everybody.

I'm just wanting to share what's going on as I am extremely worried. On Saturday night I was having a shower and somehow felt a lump in my right breast. It feels round or oval, like a smooth ball and it rolls around under my fingers when I feel it. It doesn't hurt although both of my breasts are pretty tender at the moment due to me being due on my period so just regular tenderness. I don't have any others. I went to GP Monday morning and I was extremely upset in the consultation. The GP was very kind and said it is mobile and this is reassuring, and to her it feels like a fibroadenoma, however it is protocol to refer under 2ww to make sure. The hospital rang me 3 hours after referral and my appointment at the breast clinic is on Monday at 10am. I am so so anxious, I've completely lost my appetite since I found the lump and I feel like I have back and neck muscular pain which I assume is stress but then I am  Questioning whether this is to do with a cancer that has spread. I have 3 young children, I am 31 and I am struggling on how to cope. I have just qualified as a nurse this week and I feel that I am so anxious that I am unable to work. I'm concerned at how quickly my appointment came through, is this due to them suspecting something bad?

  • Hi missjades,

I'm sorry you have found something are feeling so anxious. Hope I can lessen it somewhat for you.  I too found a lump like you describe a few years back. Initially, they wouldn't refer me because of my age. I was 27 at the time but as it was still there 2 weeks later so they sent a referral. Waited a further 2 weeks to see breast clinic and when I got there they said it had gone.  Like others have said as it's not fixed it's very reassuring. Also there are many reasons for lumps; cysts, blocked ducts and fibroadenoma (like your doc said) so please try not to worry.

I am the same age as you now and had a lumpectomy today. Lump this time was a very different feeling - hard and couldn't be moved. My daughter is will be turning 1 on Saturday so know how you feel and here to offer support.

    Big hugs xx

i had my appointment today. The consultant said it is a fibroadenoma, they used ultrasound and took a biopsy (I questioned why and they said it is protocol when you are older than 25) and said they would call me in  5-6 working days with results.it was 1cm x 2cm. They said they are not concerned at all, and they see this all the time, so I really hope this is correct I feel like I've viewed so many posts on here where news comes back bad despite doctors thinking it's benign. I hope you are all okay. I'll keep updated xx

  • That sounds really positive you must be relieved. My situation is the same as yours, I get my biopsy results on Wednesday so fingers crossed no surprises x

  • I want to feel relieved but feel put off by the scary stories on here even when they took the sample and it was on the needle, I said "does that look characteristic of a fibroadenoma?" And the radiologist said yes. But now my anxiety is making me question everything. The consultant was the most reassuring, which I want to believe but I'm just so frightened, mainly with me having young children and working as a nurse so I feel like I see only the bad cases. Fingers crossed for us both xx

  • Hey, I had my results this morning and it confirmed a fibroadenoma. Let me know how you get on x

  • Hi, I was thinking about you. I'm so glad! I bet you are so relieved. I'm going to Spain tomorrow and I'm sick with worry. They just said they would ring me when results were in x

  • I'm very relieved, I hadn't made plans for the future because I didn't know what was happening. Feels like a huge weight has been lifted.

I'll be thinking of you, let me know how you go or if there's anything I can do to put you at ease ️

  • I just keep worrying that they are going to call and tell me I need t come in or just tell me straight up bad news. I'm so scared, mainly because of having the 3 kids. After the biopsy my boob looks a little off ish and the lump feels a bit less defined and more like general lumpiness. I don't know what to think, I'm past myself. Dreading going abroad tomorrow but I don't suppose there is much I can really do. I'm hanging onto hope that the consultant was so reassuring and confident but scary when reading about people who had this and then were told it was cancer xx

  • My lump still feels weird but the nurse this morning said it would be for a good month. Its hard not to read those awful stories and think the worst but I've also read that those specific cases are rare. Try focus on what you know now which is all signs lead to good news and busy yourself with your holiday. X

  • Thank you so much for being here for me. It's been the most worrying time of my life xx
