Lump in breast

Hi everybody.

I'm just wanting to share what's going on as I am extremely worried. On Saturday night I was having a shower and somehow felt a lump in my right breast. It feels round or oval, like a smooth ball and it rolls around under my fingers when I feel it. It doesn't hurt although both of my breasts are pretty tender at the moment due to me being due on my period so just regular tenderness. I don't have any others. I went to GP Monday morning and I was extremely upset in the consultation. The GP was very kind and said it is mobile and this is reassuring, and to her it feels like a fibroadenoma, however it is protocol to refer under 2ww to make sure. The hospital rang me 3 hours after referral and my appointment at the breast clinic is on Monday at 10am. I am so so anxious, I've completely lost my appetite since I found the lump and I feel like I have back and neck muscular pain which I assume is stress but then I am  Questioning whether this is to do with a cancer that has spread. I have 3 young children, I am 31 and I am struggling on how to cope. I have just qualified as a nurse this week and I feel that I am so anxious that I am unable to work. I'm concerned at how quickly my appointment came through, is this due to them suspecting something bad?

  • It could also have been a cancellation so they were able to move your appointment. I have just been through going to the breast clinic etc and found waiting 2 weeks for the appointment the worst part of it. Its good you don't have as long to wait.

I know it's easier said than done but try not to worry. 80% of lumps are benign and your GP said they thought it was a fibroadenoma which is a good start. Let us know how you get on x

  • Thank you. I will keep the post updated. I feel pretty defeated already, I don't do well with health related things as I have anxiety anyway so I don't know how I will cope if I get bad news. I can't even begin to say how much I am in awe of the strength of the people on here, I wish I could have an ounce of the courage. I just fear for my children x

  • I totally understand how you're feeling. Anxiety plus health scares really don't go well together. Stay off Dr Google, try leave the lump alone and keep yourself busy. The days will fly by and you won't feel as out of control once you're at your appointment x
