CIN3 and hpv

A year and a half ago I had a smear test and was told i have HPV but it was laying dormant so to book in a years time and it should be gone.

unfortunately I went back a year later and was told it was there and postive with some abnormal cells.
i got refered to hospital and was told they was CIN3 high grade/server, they was really good at the hospital and removed them there and then and told to rebook in 6 months for another smear.

i am due the smear next month and can not stop worrying as my periods are everywhere and really heavy, Iv had spotting and pains I wouldn't normally get.

Could the CIN3 come back that fast and could it turn to cancer that fast?

  • Hi Maria and welcome to the forum.

I noticed you had some questions about CIN3 and cancer so I just wanted to point you in the direction of our cancer nurses as they're very knowledgeable in this area and will be able to explain in more detail how this all works. If you'd like to speak to them, they're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

I know it's hard not to worry, as do our members, many of which have been in a similar situation so you're not alone and hopefully you will receive some support and advice from them soon.

I really hope your cervical screening goes well next month and you receive good news when the time comes.

    All the best,

  • Hi

i just wanted to comment as I'm in the same situation.

i had my smear which came back hpv positive and high cell changes I was sent for colposcopy.
I saw my cervix on the screen and I could see the cell changes and knew it wasn't great.
they did the Leep procedure there and then and I was told it was going for testing as the dr said to him it looked like early invasive cancer too which my heart went in my throat and my mouth went dry. I kept thinking about my two children and my husband.
i chased my results and was told it was CIN3 but no signs of cancer which was a weight off my mind. He said I need a check up in 6 months at my drs.

i had my smear again a few days ago but the nurse couldn't complete this as she said there is something covering the opening off my cervix where they test. So I have a urgent referral back to the hospital and at first I was scared and thinking the worst but now I'm in a mind frame off whatever it is I'm hoping it's been caught quickly.

fingers crossed yours comes back clear ️

  • I really hope they get it all sorted for you and your not left waiting to long, I really find the waiting part hard :(

If you don't mind me asking did you have any symptoms or problems while waiting for your 6 month check up?

Sounds silly but I just feel like everything down there is just all messed up, pains I wouldn't normally get, longer periods and heavy, I'm also spotting and more :(
i did call the doctors but they told me they can not carry out the smear any earlier or the results would be just chucked away :(

I really hope it comes back ok for you. ️

  • Hi

i didn't have any really as I have the implant which stopped my periods and I didn't bleed after sex or anything.
i have a bad back but I think it's due to the epidural I had a few years ago. I didn't have any discharge.
I feel completely fine so it's strange to have all this going on inside me and not knowing.

I have a appointment on the 20th afternoon and I will let you know the outcome. I find myself reading the chats on here and everyone seems to have different symptoms. So don't worry too much when you are reading others experiences.
It is so much easier said than done I understand as some days I feel ok and others it just hits me that it would be more sinister.
i just think that whatever is going on there is hopefully something that will treat it. Try to remain positive and also if you have tik tok lately I have been following people on there and it has actually helped me a lot.

  • Hi Maria

If you have these symptoms you should get checked out by the doctor. A smear is not a diagnostic test, so is not actually what you need, and is not something that can be done anyway if it is too early for your next one. You should make an appointment to get checked though, for peace of mind.

  • Hi thank you, so I contacted the doctors and they had me in the next day for a check up, he has referred me back to the hospital as he couldn't see all my cervix and said I should be seen in a few weeks.

  • Hi Maria

I hope all will be well for you. Let us know how things go. x

  • Hi

i had my hospital appointment at 4 today and I was told that the lump is tissue from my previous procedure thank god.
he managed to complete my smear and will let me know the outcome he did as if my family was complete and if it came back high grade again would I consider a hysterectomy too which I said yes. I have a daughter aged 12 and a son 2 and we are complete but that was still enough to shock me.

but knowing he said everything looked ok I will take that.

hope all ok for you keep me updated
