CT results advice

Hello,

I will give some background as I have been on quite a journey and I am not sure where or whom to go to now.

Last November, I experienced a month long bleed. This was not heavy but consisted mostly of passing dark clots. I have been on the injection since I had my daughter so I hadn't even been having periods since before I fell pregnant with her.

I was sent for blood tests, an ultrasound and smear test. Blood tests came back fine, ultrasound came back normal though the nurse doing the scan did say something about a 'patchy womb' and evidence of some changes. Smear test was normal.

In May, I started getting bloating and was getting toilet urgency and some bowel incontinence.
I was sent for blood tests on 1st June.

On 9th June, the doctor called to inform me that they had found raised CA125 levels and I was being put on the 2-week cancer pathway and being sent for an emergency ultrasound and gynacolist appointment. I had an ultrasound on the 11th and the results showed nothing of concern.

I saw the gynacologist on the 20th June and although he hadn't been sent my ultrasound results through, he said he didn't have any concerns after an internal examination and took me off the pathway and refered me back to my GP. He said it was his opinion that the results were due to an underlying digestive issue and this should be investigated.

I saw the GP on the 21st June who had the opposite opinion, saying CA125 couldn't be raised due to digestive disorders. After an internal rectal investigation, she said it was her opinion that I just have IBS and to stick to a low FODMAP diet. She made me do a stool sample to check there was no inflammation and that came back normal.

She then referred me for a CT scan due to concerns from the fact of a family history of gynacological cancers. I didn't have this until the 4th August. It has been 4 weeks and I have still not had any results. I applied to have access to my CT scan at the end of last week. I recieved the images but the results had not been reviewed. On the notes they were down as no reason for the scan and no doctor as requesting so I am wondering if this is the reason for the delay.

Either way, I don't know where to go from here? Who to contact? Whether I just wait and cross my fingers?

I am scared and I don't feel as though anyone is taking my concerns seriously.

  • Hello SuperMum222

I'm sorry to hear about all that you've been through over the past months. It's understandable that you're feeling anxious and frustrated by things.

We know that many people are experiencing delays in receiving results at the moment. I think from your post that it was your GP who referred you for the CT scan so as the requesting Dr they would be the first port of call to try and get the results chased.

Alternatively, you could contact the hospital PALS team who may be able to help. Their role is to help resolve concerns or problems when you're using the NHS so whilst they won't be able to help with a diagnosis they may be able to find out when your images are likely to be reported on.

I do hope that you have some news soon and that things improve for you.

    Best wishes,

  • I contacted the GP friday and she said that she will chase the results sometime this week.

If I still have no luck, I will get in contact with PALS

    Thank you for your help.
