Breast scan results

Hi, I am a 26 year old female and I went to the breast clinic yesterday because I have hard lumpy tissue in my left breast. I have been for ultrasounds on the same breast 3 times in the last year because I have severe health anxiety and I constantly think something is wrong with my breast because they are so lumpy. I read a horrible story on Facebook about a girl from Chester who had a hardened left breast and she went for an ultrasound and they said it was a blocked milk duct and sent her away and when her symptoms didn't improve she went back again and they told her it was benign breast change but her symptoms still didn't improve so she paid private and they confirmed she had breast cancer. I am terrified because everytime I have been for a breast scan the results have always been 'normal glandular tissue' however this time she said to me 'benign breast change'!!! I seen red because that's what that girl was told and I already have severe health anxiety and I just couldn't cope although I know this is the most amazing outcome for so many people. She said there is a mild benign breast change because my glandular tissue was a little bit swollen due to hormones and the menstrual cycle. Has anyone else been told this? She said there was no fibrodomenas or anything and everything is normal. I should trust doctors as these are experts but it's so hard when you see horror stories from girls my age and their experiences. I still don't feel satisfied and that there is something wrong but they can't see it. Can an ultrasound be wrong and am I worrying unnecessary? Has anyone else been told this? Thanks x

  • Hello blondegirlx

I'm sorry to hear that you're dealing with anxiety about your health at the moment. You've had multiple scans now and from your post, you're obviously still very concerned about these changes despite the clinical teams telling you that there is nothing worrying for them.

I don't know if you've spoken with your GP about how badly your anxiety is impacting your life at the moment but I'd certainly recommend that you speak to them and ask for some help and support in learning to better manage this aspect of your health. In the meantime have a look at the information on the NHS website about health anxiety which has some advice that may help you cope.

I do hope that things improve for you soon.

    Best wishes,
