Scared…Cervix investigations due to symptoms

Hi, I'm 30 and am a lymphoma survivor which I was diagnosed with at 24, been in remission from that for 4 years now. The treatment for my lymphoma put me into a permanent menopause so I can't have periods or fertile times etc, so I have been taking HRT tablets. Last year I had a smear which showed up as HPV positive, I'm presuming my husband must have re infected me after my immune system recovered from the lymphoma. This year I've had heavy bleeding for 8 weeks at a time, and intense hip and back pain, in December I started a job that involves heavy lifting so I thought at first it might be to do with that but my GP wants to get me in for a re-smear and gynae exam.

the reason I am scared is because I have two school age young kids, a husband with depression, and all I hear about with cervical cancer is that it kills so many mums here in the UK. I know some ladies from the chemo unit I was on who had cervical cancer.. two died and one has just had a relapse after having a baby.  I'm just so scared

  • I'm really pleased to hear you've been in remission for 4 years Jen although I'm sorry about the current symptoms you've been contending with and for the worry they are causing.
