Biopsy results

Currently waiting for biopsy results done on thyroid (app this Thurs) and the wait has been some what been testing (2 wks for results).

Today I get a call stating im scheduled for surgery next week and need a CT scan before hand. I told person who rang I had yet to have review and she said oh all will be discussed then.

My mind has now gone into overdrive. Have they found something as they did say suspected cancer or are they removing as the 3 lumps, 3cm in size are causing other issues.

Was in work and on a coffee break surrounded by colleagues when I received the call and due to the shock failed to ask the appropriate questions.

I haven't told my girls yet until I know exactly what it is I'm dealing with as I don't want to worry them as im a single mum.

Things are moving so quickly my head is in a spin.

  • I hope things are getting better your way.

Just a quick update I'm 3 days post surgery and ended up suffering slightly.

During surgery one of the lumps was deeper than thought and close to the trachea, which they nicked and ended up needing stitches there. So surgery was longer and there was a debate where I was placed, on a general ward or HDU as they were afraid I'd develop surgical emphesima. It's been a bit of a nightmare with calcium levels, needing 2 infusions, heart monitoreded, an ecg, endless blood testing, drips, a throat drain and 3 nebulizers as had a tight chest and found coughing difficult.

But fingers crossed I shall be discharged tomorrow and just awaite to see the results from path labs and my next appointment. Hoping they have got everything.

    Take care

  • Hi Deedee

Thanks for the update. I'm sorry to hear it wasn't a straight forward procedure but sounds like you were in the best of hands!
I hope you get discharged tomorrow and wishing you a speedy recovery. Your girls will be glad to have you home.
Hopefully they got it all and that's the worst part over.

I have an appointment to get my biopsy results in 2 weeks time. They like to keep me waiting. I am counting down the days but have I something planned each day to keep me busy.

All the best and keep in touch with updates. Rachel.

  • Hi [@rachel25]‍

I just thought I'd pop in here and ask how you're doing? Any results yet? My nodule was found during an MRI I had in March. I had to wait until May for the biopsy and then a wait of 3 weeks for the results - abnormal cells, th3a, inconclusive. I've been waiting for the op to remove half the thyroid and do a core biopsy ever since (almost 4 months). Having had breast cancer in 2019, I fear the worse and finding the waiting really hard. As much as we hear that thyroid cancer is a 'good one' it doesn't seem to help when you're in limbo. Hopefully I'll get my op soon.

Hi [@Deedee]‍ Im sorry to hear about your diagnosis and terrible time after the op. How are you doing? It all seems to have happened so quickly for you I'm sure it's been a blur. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in Nov 2019, had mastectomies in Jan 2020 and by February was given the all clear. Then it hit me - the cancer hangover! I hope you have the time to process everything and that both your physical and mental recovery is going well.

    with love x

  • Hi [@CazStu]‍

Thanks for messaging, it helps to hear other peoples stories, doesn't make you feel alone.
Im sorry to hear you had to go through that journey in 2019, completely understandable you feel the worst. I find waiting for results is emotionally draining. My results came back as a follicular lesion so it will need removed, I have an appointment tomorrow to discuss the results further and make a treatment plan. I was told with the result the op would not be urgent so I'm expecting to wait a few months but hopefully not to long! I hope you get your op soon. Take care and keep us updated.

    Rachel

  • Hi to both of you

It is comforting to hear advice, support and stories of other peoples journeys, makes you realise you are not alone.

Just been to docs today to have bloods checked to make sure on right dose of meds. While there she took steri strips off and wound healing nicely.

However I am struggling with my breathing so she got me in to see GP. He has given me antibiotics incase I have an infection (struggling to cough up phlegm off chest) an inhailer to help with the tight chest and took bloods to check for a blood clot.

Just tired and feel blah. Still awaiting appointment for review with consultant. Hoping I dont need any further treatment going forward.

So I am still playing the waiting game watching plenty of box sets to keep my mind occupied.

    Take care

  • Good luck for tomorrow. Take a note pad and pen and scribble down answers and also ask any questions that you may have (my sister helped me with this also kept her focused and stopped her from being upset)

    Xx

  • Hi [@rachel25]‍ Hiw are you? I just wondered how your appointment went and what your treatment plan looks like. I've now had a repeat biopsy as I kicked off about waiting four months with a might have cancer diagnosis and no op in sight! So it's now another 2-3 weeks wait for the results. I hope things don't drag like this for you x

  • Hi [@CazStu]‍

I had been meaning to update so thank you for checking in.

I'm doing ok. I am on the list for surgery, it is expected to happen this side of Christmas. I have another nodule on the other side which from the USS is benign. So I've another follow up appointment next week to decide if they are doing a partial or total thyroidectomy.

I'm sorry to hear this is dragging out for you. It is emotionally and mentally exhausting waiting on results and a treatment plan. I really hope you get the results soon! If they come back indeterminate again will you push for surgery?

    Hi [@DeeDee46]‍

How are you? Hope all is well. Did the antibiotics help with your breathing? How is your wound healing? Have you had your follow up appointment?

    All the best

    Rachel

  • Morning

I am glad a plan is in place, try not to let the waiting get to you.

I was admitted to hospital for 3 days last week due to blood markers showing possibility of a clot/hematoma.

Had chest x-ray, pet ct scan on neck and another on chest and injection of blood thinners. All clear for clots but did show small amount of fluid on lungs but not enough to cause concern.

Still waiting for follow up appointment may have to chase up with consultants secretary but they were both on holiday. Hospital consultant wasnt impressed there was no one to speak to regarding my case.

    My breathing still difficult!

    Think positive, onwards and upwards

     Take care

  • Hi

How is every one doing? Well I hope.

Saw consultant today (diff one mine still on hols) to discuss breathing difficulty. He thinks my vocal chords have been damaged and need time to heal so has made a referral to ENT to check. Could take 6 months to heal so any further help will only be done after this.

He did say they haven't had team meeting yet but according to report trachea had to be cut as Cancer had attached itself to it. Both sides thyroid was cancerous. Out of the 10 lymph nodes taken 3 had cancer cells in them so it had started to spread.

As a result I will need the higher dose of radioiodine treatment which he has also ref me for with possibility of radiotherapy.

Still in shock as like I say from gp app in July to this is jst too crazy to comprehend.

He did say I wouldn't be returning to work any time soon so I need to keep mentally busy so I don't over think things.

Onwards and upwards. Today is better than yesterday and tomorrow will be better than today
