Paranoid I have skin cancer

I am a mother of two and when I fell pregnant with my second baby this strange bump appeared on my arm.
the midwife told me it was nothing to worry about and completely normal.
two years down the line and it has raised and changed colour. I have contacted the doctors and they have referred me, but told me it could take several months before someone calls to book an appointment.
I am so anxious, I am scared for my children and I was just wondering if anyone has had something similar l.

thank you for taking the time to read my post xx

  • Hello Gemma2212,

A big welcome to Cancer Chat. You did well to contact the doctor's after you noticed that your lump had raised and changed colour. It's good that they have referred you to a specialist so that they can take a closer look and diagnose what it is. It sounds like it wasn't an urgent referral if it may be months before someone calls to book an appointment so the doctor doesn't seem to have been overly concerned.

It's normal to be anxious but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be as there are so many things it could be other than skin cancer. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious. Especially as you may have to wait a long time for your appointment, there is information on this page to help you cope while waiting for important news.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,

    Lucie, Cancer Chat Moderator
