endometrium 18mm and a Mass

Few weeks ago I had a scan which showed my right ovary is enlarged and contains a heterogeneous lesion. I have free pelvic fluid and my endometrium is thickened (18cm). I was referred to the Cancer Pathway as GP suspects could be ovarian Cancer.

I finally have my appointment tomorrow with a Gnaecological Oncology and I'm super anxious. Isn't this a cancer specialist? I don't think they'll be able to give me an answer, but anyone know what I can expect?

I've been on edge the last few weeks. I'm taking someone with me tomorrow do you think that will be ok?

Has anyone had anything similar and it been cancer? Or it been something else?

  • Hello Nattahlee

I wanted to post to ask how you got on at your appointment yesterday. I hope that the team was able to give you some answers and you now know what the next steps will be.

If there's anything you want to talk through with our nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

Do let us know how things went if you're able to.

  • I managed to get an appointment to see Gynaecological Oncology specialist. When I seen it was to see someone in Oncology I’ve been sick thinking about worst case situation.

I seen the Doctor and nurses who were amazing. I had to have a biopsy of my lining (womb) which was horrific. I ended up needing gas & air and I now feel like having time of month- not pleasant experience. I’ve had bloods and been referred for another scan. She wants to do an MRI too. She was so reassuring though and said it’s very likely not to be ovarian cancer as she said the mass could be due to fact scan was taken before my period etc.

She was more focus on my lining and I asked about endometriosis. She said yes very likely but I’d require to be put under to confirm/ to know more but huge risk for me having a heart condition. Is this the only way to confirm? She did mention about possibly having womb etc removed and options but wants to wait until all my results have came back.

I’m not sure how I’m feeling. I feel better from reassurance may not be cancer but then fear of it’s endometriosis is possible.

  • Hello Nattahlee

I'm so pleased that the team was able to give you some reassurance yesterday despite everything else that you have/had to deal with. Hopefully you won't have to wait too long for the biopsy results and combined with the MRI this will give the specialist the information they need to help you move forwards.

In the meantime, I wanted to let you know about an organisation called Endometriosis UK. They have lots of information, advice, and support available on their website along with a helpline that you can call to talk with someone.

I do hope that things improve for you soon.

    Best wishes,
