Reoccurrence breast cancer

Has anyone else had a double mascetomy and their cancer returned? I had cancer 9 years ago and underwent a double mascetomy and lymph node removal on the right arm. I started to have a heavy arm a few months back and it wasn't going down and found a risen node in my collar bone. Last week I was told it was a reoccurrence and I find out more tomorrow on the full results of the biopsy!

To be honest, im in shock right now that it's returned after 9 years and a double mastectomy! I was 30 at first diagnosis and turned 40 this March, has anyone survived this? I have a 5 year old now which makes this so... much harder to deal with.

  • I'm so sorry to hear you are dealing with a recurrence after 9 years of being cancer free Cos.

I can't begin to imagine how you must be feeling at the moment but our community are here for you and hopefully those who have found themselves in a similar position will be along soon to offer you their support and advice.

If you'd to talk through anything that was discussed at your appointment yesterday, then do give our cancer nurses a call. They're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and will do all they can to answer any questions you may have.

    Kind regards,

  • I had triple negative breast cancer in 2019, chemo, radiotherapy, a lumpectomy, it came back again in December 2020, I had further chemo and a double mastectomy in 2021. I then got cancer again in my axillary lymph nodes in December 2022 and had an axillary clearance. All clear after. But recently I’ve been feeling unwell again, so I’ve just had another pet scan, waiting on the results. Hopefully it’s not back again!

I really hope and pray it was good news for you!

    sending big hugs xx
