Lump above collarbone - doctors say they can't find anything

So I initially went to my GP with a lump above my collarbone, which the GP confirmed was a swollen lymph node.

Since then the hospital have done a chest xray, CT scan, bloods and ultrasound. The ultrasound doctor said they couldn't see it, even though its clearly visible. They said if there is a lump there it must be fatty tissue. However, I have lipomas all over my legs and ultrasound scans have picked them up in the passed, so I'm very confused.

The CT scan also came back saying lymph nodes all in order and my organs look fine. I'm so very confused, as the lump is there. I have 12 plus lipomas, this is not one. How has nothing picked up on this lump? I'm actually going to pay to have a private ultrasound scan. This lump is bigger then a pea, but smaller then a grape. Everytime I look in the mirror I can see it protruding.

Anyone have anything like this happen to them?

  • Hello Grapeseedjake and welcome to Cancer Chat,

I can understand why you are feeling a bit puzzled by all this. It looks like the hospital were thorough and carried out several tests but that you feel you were left without satisfactory answers. As you are still worried, it may be worth as you said looking into getting another scan which I hope will confirm that there is nothing of concern there. You could also try and get a second opinion about this lump and mention that you feel the lump is there but that it doesn't seem to have been picked up on the scans.

I hope that you will meet others who have been in a similar situation and that they will be along shortly to share their experience with you.

    Best wishes,
