Urgent Referral to Breast Clinic

Hello,  just looking for a bit of advice.  I've just been to the gp after receiving a letter from a CT scan I had for my lungs after developing a pulmonary embolism,  lungs are now fine but they found an enlarged lymph node in my armpit. I've been put on an urgent referral to the breast clinic and also blood tests for lymphoma. Obviously feeling a bit anxious but also not wanting to talk to people as I don't want to be dramatic lol!!  Anyone else who has had anything skmilar I'd love to hear how everything went for you and what I should expect. I'm not even sure what will happen at this referral appointment?  Thanks x

  • Hello Armadillo33,

A warm welcome to Cancer Chat. You've come to the right place to talk to others here who understand what you are going through at the moment. I hope you won't mind but I have added the words 'to the breast clinic' to your title so that it can be more easily spotted by others who are or have been in a similar situation.

It's normal to be anxious especially as you are having to wait for answers and it's easy to fall into the trap of looking things up online and anticipating the worst. But it's best if you can to stay well away from the unreliable Dr Google as this will only make you more anxious. You can read more about what to expect at a breast clinic appointment and I hope the information on the Breast Cancer Now site will give you an idea as to what to expect prior to your appointment.

Hopefully you will hear from others here who have been through something similar and they will be along shortly to share their experience with you. Waiting for answers is incredibly hard as many of our members will know only too well and there are helpful tips on this page to help you cope while waiting for important news.

I hope your appointment at the breast clinic goes well and that your blood tests are fine.

Keeping everything crossed for you that it all turns out to be nothing of concern.

    Best wishes,

    Lucie, Cancer Chat Moderator

  • Referring me to breast clinic after  CT scan witch is showing lymph node what do I expect on my visit there I’m waiting for letter to arrive but just a little worried thank you

  • Hello Jan23mac

I'm sorry to hear that you're feeling worried about the referral to the breast clinic. It's natural that you might have some concerns, but hopefully the team will be able to give you some reassurance when you see them.

Moderator Lucie shared a link to information about what happens at a breast clinic appointment in her response above. It's possible that the breast team may want to carry out some additional imaging, such as an ultrasound or mammogram, when you see them, and they should also have access to the CT scan results to help them determine if this lymph node is connected to anything they may need to address.

If it would hel pto chat things through with one of our nurses, you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can.

Do let us know how you get on at the appointment.

    Best wishes,
