Positive HPV and High grade dyskaryosis

Hi,

I had low grade dyskaryosis and positive HPV this time last year. Shocked was an understatement as I'd never had a positive HPV/ abormal cell result from a smear test previously. Attended a colposcopy whereby they found cervical ectropion. They'd said it could've formed as I'd given birth 2 years previously. They said nothing need be done and I would just need to attend a screening a year later.

Fast forward a year, recieved the results from my cervical screening today stating positive HPV and high grade dyskaryosis. Has anyone been in a similar situation? Am I to be concerned that what they assumed was cervical ectropion previously, could actually be more concerning? Is it concerning that the cells have progressed from low to high in less than a year?

I still to this day have no symptoms whatsoever, which is why it surprises me even more so. I have only noticed a few bumps and a hardened lump on the opening of Mr cervix, to what I assumed would be Nabothian cysts.

  • Hello Gsmith29

I'm sorry to hear that your most recent cervical screening results have given you some cause for concern. We know that many women who receive similar results are worried that there could be something more concerning going on.

There's lots of information available on the Jo's Trust website about HPV and also about cell changes. I'd suggest having a read of some of that information over the weekend as it may offer you some reassurance. If you'd like to talk things through with someone next week you can either call the Jo's Trust helpline or our team of nurses on 0808 800 4040 (Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm).

Hopefully, you won't have to wait too long for your colposcopy appointment and the team will be able to give you some further answers and reassurance on the day.

I hope things are resolved for you quickly.

    Best wishes,
    Jenn
