Referred on 2ww for breast exam

Hi,

I experienced breast pain and swelling in both breasts two weeks ago and just over one week ago felt a lump on the outside of my left breast. I left it for a while to see if it was hormonal but it hasn't changed and so I went to my GP who referred me for a breast exam as she felt the lump and said my other breast felt as though it was lumpy too. I'm still waiting for my appointment but can't help but feel like I'm overreacting as I am only 22 and it could be series of different things, I would hate to think I am wasting their time. Every time I feel the lump I can't help but feel uneasy as I know something isn't right. I haven't mentioned it to any family or friends yet as I wouldn't want to worry anybody as it's probably nothing but feel like it could help to speak about it.

  • Hello Lucy0301

I'm sorry to hear that you have some concerns about your breast health at the moment. You've done exactly the right thing in speaking with your GP and it's good to hear that they've referred you to get things checked over.

The vast majority of people who attend breast clinic aren't diagnosed with breast cancer so please don't feel that you're wasting anyone's time. The most important thing is that you get these lumps checked and the team can give you some reassurance.

I hope that you don't have to wait too long for your appointment. Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
