Is it lung cancer ?

My wife is 34 years old and never smoked . She has been facing a strange condition.

For every one and half month , she develops few caugh intervals(10 -15 seconds) in midnight for two days and third day she gets a caugh with clearly visible stick blood in it . Thats's it . And then there will be no sign/symtopm for next 45 days . Apart from this caugh with stick blood once in 45 days , she has little discomfort in chest . No other symptoms or signs . We observed it 4 times in last 6 months .

We met GP yesterday and he checked and felt weezing while she is breathing and he questioned about asthama or pnumonia before . As per our knowldge she does not have (allergies might be we don't know) . He suggested to have blood test and followed by x-ray in next two weeks . When I asked him about the seriousness , He said I don't think it's serious (Not sure he does not want to reveal anything )

But we are really worried about blood in caugh and happend few times . And she feels it's not just coming from throat.

How possibly could it be related to lung cancer symptom ? or I am thinking too much . Please can anyone help us with the information

  • Hi there,  wife of lung cancer husband who did smoke.  He was not in discomfort or coughing up blood and never in any pain so please try not to go down the dark road of thinking cancer.  The x Ray will show what is going on and shadows on lungs can be other symptoms not just cancer.  My daughter had TB as a child and has shadows in her lungs, my son. In law had pneumonia, once again a shadow on lung.  Wait for the outcome, Stay positive and let the doctors decide what the shadow is if there is one.  I hope all goes well for you both. There are also blood vessels in our throat so stress on those through coughing can cause bright red blood to be coughed up.  Carol

  • so many things this could be

night-time cough and yes GPs do tend to think asthma

very occasional blood likely to be mild respiratory rather than serious issue

blood in cough and coughing (usually not just at night) could be so many things but common causes are pneumonia, chronic bronchitis or COPD

could even be something like GERD (stomach related) – you're not having a blow-out meal every six weeks by any chance?

    so many non-cancer options

it won't be GP not wanting to reveal anything

he can't have any real indication what it might be until he gets some results back

cancer will not be top of his mind, however
