Finger clubbing and platelet count

About me:
Male, age 31, non-smoker, prev. Hodgkins Lymphoma treated with ABVD 6 cycles only. Some lung damage to Bleomycin.

I wanted to ask some advice. I’ve recently had an ongoing cough for around 4 months and noticed some finger clubbing (confirmed by a pulmonologist).

I’ve previous had Hodgkins Lymphoma in 2014 and am in remission.

The pulmonologist has performed CRP, ESR blood tests, lung function, X-ray and CT scan with contrast. All have come back normal.

The CT scan showed a tiny focus of Nodularity in the left upper lobe. I have been told this is normal and if they pulled people in off the street they would find this. It’s likely scar tissue I was told.

The finger clubbing has been put down as non-specific and the cough as a residual thing or perhaps anxiety.

I’ve also had blood tests over the last 2 years to monitor my bloods. I have noticed my platelet count may have a trend:

285 - November 2016
327 - June 2020
295 - July 2020
352 - June 2021
355 - October 2021
360 - October 2021
395 - June 2022
336 - July 2022

To summarise, do I need any further follow up and are the platelets of concern?

  • Welcome to the forum localman1.

I looked for other posts here which are similar to yours but didn't find any recent ones so the best advice I can give you would be to ring your medical team and see what they think as we can't advise on whether the platelets are a cause for concern.

Also, if you want to speak to someone with a medical background before you book an appointment with the team which is following you, our nurses would be happy to answer some general questions you might have. They can be reached on this number 0808 800 4040 Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

    All the best,
