No update from Pathway referral for Ovarian Cancer

Super anxious.
I had an ultrasound done over two weeks ago as I’ve been having few symptoms like losing weight (without trying), really painful and heavy periods, lower back pain, bloating and list goes on… it took me 6 months of chasing to get ultrasound rebooked after I had to cancel due to having covid.

I was referred to the cancer pathway over two weeks ago as my ultrasound showed few things (not one but multiple) including lesion in my ovaries with own blood flow etc. Since then my GP done full bloods in which number has flagged abnormal. I’ve not heard anything from the NHS urgent pathway. I feel ill with anxiety that I have cancer and it’s too late.

Does anyone know what next steps are? I phoned NHS number on my referral to be told ‘oh we’re backlogged’ which is all good but no timescales? My GP just referred me to the pathway number.

  • Hello Nattahlee,

I am so sorry to hear that you have not heard anything from the NHS urgent pathway and it's normal that you are feeling anxious about it. You did well to ring that number. Perhaps you could try and ring the number your GP advised again and ask whether they could give you a timeframe or an estimate as to what this delay might be? It may be that you will talk to someone else on the phone who might have more specific information.

If you feel you are getting nowhere, perhaps you could try and call your GP again and ask for advice on what to do. You could mention that this long wait and not knowing when you might be seen is making you feel very anxious. Your doctor will also be able to reassure you as to whether the delay would have a significant impact or not and hopefully you can get an estimate as to how long it might take.

I hope you manage to talk to someone about this and that you will have your appointment soon.

    Best wishes,
