HPV, irregular periods and constant need to pee!

Hi,

This is my first post and I hope I don't look like I'm being a bit OTT!

My last 2 smears have shown HPV, the first of which also showed abnormal cells but by the next one a year later they had gone.
At 45 I have been in peri-menopause for 4/5 years but for the last 9/10 months I have been bleeding more often than not. I tried one form of HRT but the Dr has moved me to another as the bleeding situation got worse. I have an ultrasound scan booked for next week to check nothing more sinister is going on.
The past 2 or 3 weeks I have also noticed I am needing to pee an awful lot more than is normal for me.

I feel like I am putting 2 and 2 together and coming up with 17 but I also can't help but panic when I string all these events together.
I have also been bleeding (a tiny tiny amount) after sex for a couple of years but seriously such a tiny amount I didn't really take much notice.

So, am I being OTT or are my worries a little bit normal?

  • Hello TeacherLiz,

I'm sorry to hear that you are worried about these symptoms.

When you are worried that you may have cancer, it can be natural to think the worst, but this can end up increasing anxiety rather than making you feel better. That's why further investigation is important and the only person that can diagnose you is your doctor. I hope that next week's appointment goes ok and don't be afraid to ask questions. Perhaps taking a notepad and pen might help you process everything that's said at the appointment.

    Best wishes,
