Suspected ovarian cancer

Hi,

I was initially under community gynaecology as a scan showed a dermoid cyst however my CA-125 bloods were raised so I was referred to the hospital. I've had another scan which shows a10cm & a smaller cyst. My consultant wouldn't say more but had already discussed my results with an oncologist. I was told she'd call within a couple of days to let me know next steps. That was back in June & since I've had a mri scan. I've just had my next appointment through which isn't until the 6th of sept (6 weeks since the scan) I'm taking this as good news as surely if anything more sinister than the cysts showed they'd have me in sooner....in peoples experience do you think this is right & I shouldn't be worried?
i have already been told I'll need surgery to remove the cysts and will lose an ovary so have sort of prepared myself for that but the worry of potential cancer has rocked me, my dad died last July of cancer & it's all that plays on my mind so trying to reassure myself as much as I can. Thanks x

  • Hi HannahEK

I've got no experience I'm afraid but i didn't want to read and run. It looks from mentions in a few other posts that raised CA-125 can be an indicator of a number of things? Not always cancer.

Have you not been given the number for anyone you can contact about concerns? To try and put your mind at rest? maybe try and speak to your GP or someone at the hospital and find out how normal this wait time is?

I hope you get some answers as waiting is awful x

  • Hi

I only have the number for the clinic which I called to chase up my results appointment, the lady I spoke to was lovely but couldn't see the results & wasn't able to tell me what usual wait times are. I'm hopeful it nothing as serious as cancer & will just have to wait a little longer....you're right it's the waiting that's the worst. Thanks for replying xx
