Breast clinic today - feeling anxious

I know it's ok for me to feel anxious but equally I feel guilty as everything may turn out to be fine!
But I've got my breast clinic appointment later on this afternoon and I feel really anxious. Not sure how much concentrating I'll do at work today.
Can anyone let me know what to expect?
***update - all clear. Lots of cysts. Will be having regular mammograms from 40 and have been signed up to a family genetics programme. Really hope everyone else is doing ok xx

  • Hey Laurie

I've arranged a private consultation as a few weeks ago it took my 3 days to even get through to my surgery (for something for my son)

My appointment is at 1.30pm today and my hubby is coming along to give me some support. I don't expect much from today apart from an examination and some further appointment bookings for more investigations.

I'm 45 with no family history of breast cancer. The lump is small, hard, and can be felt on the surface just slightly to the right of my nipple but when I give it a feel it definitely goes deeper.

Let us know how you go today. Sending love and luck xx

  • Hiya,

I'll be thinking of you and crossing everything! 1.30 isn't far away (but I bet it feels like it is!)

my appointment is at 3.30. My symptoms are not at all indicative of breast cancer because I'm experiencing pain.. I've got a slightly swollen right breast, it looks bruised and veiny and I have 2 painful lumps. So I'm imagining it will be a cyst or similar.

however, I think the anxiety stems from my mum being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2019, 6 months after she was diagnosed with blood cancer. The two cancers were completely separate and it was such a shock. Additionally, my maternal grandmother died of breast cancer at 40. Her mother and her mothers sister also had breast cancer.

Anyway, I'll be sending you such positive vibes this afternoon! x

  • I completely understand your anxiety given all the family experience. It's hard to step away and see reason when your head's all over the place but there is every chance you have absolutely nothing to worry about. I'll look forward to hearing how you get on; and thank you so much for your kind words. 1.30pm can't come soon enough! xx
