Worried about Vulva cancer

I'm petrified I have vulva cancer, I'm a white lady but downstairs is quite dark and red all the time I've had tests for infections which have all been normal no STDs or anything like that either but sometimes I just get a random burning sensation downstairs that's not related to urininating, I've also got a small white patch by my anus and swollen lymph nodes in the right side of my groin.

I feel at a lose please can someone respond if you've had anything similar

  • Hi

Have you made an appointment with your GP to get some reassurance? Hopefully it might not be anything to worry about but it's better to get it checked.

I'm currently having treatment for vulva cancer. Mine started with broken, sore skin patches on my vulva that itched like mad!!

Let me know how you go on and feel free to message me if you want to chat at anytime.

    Xx

  • I've seen multiple doctors and no one seems worried because of my age but I'm currently pregnant so everything has been put down to that but I'm so scared it's not.

it's just redness and burning I'm worried about it looks really dark down there!

im so sorry for what your going through how are you doing x

  • It is a very rare cancer in young women, although I suppose I'm the exception to that rule unfortunately because I'm only 37. Don't forget that we all look different down there.....what is normal for one person will be different for someone else. Has the midwife seen the patches of skin or felt the lymph nodes?

I'm doing okay thank you for asking. I've had 2 operations so far this year and I'm currently undergoing radiotherapy and chemotherapy treatment.

    Xx

  • Oh bless you what stage are you if you don't mind me asking? I have had doctors feel my lymph nodes and they say they are not swollen but I can feel them.

im so scared right now x

  • It's totally understandable that you're scared....when we find something that doesn't look or feel normal we freak out don't we because we are only human!

My cancer is stage 3C. It means it spread from my vulva to my lymph nodes in my groin so I had all my lymph nodes removed in April. I had my first op in February - a total radical vulvectomy and reconstruction.

Have you tried getting a 2nd opinion? Could you see a different GP?

Vulva cancer is generally a really slow developing cancer as well. It can take years to form. Mine is caused by HPV and I've had countless biopsies of my cervix and the wall of my vagina over the years because I've never had a clear smear. I've always had some sort of pre-cancerous issue down below. Are your smears up to date?

  • I am just so scared I have a little boy who's 2 and as I said I'm pregnant again and the thought of dying and living them without a mother is just soul destroying and why I'm panicking so much.

I'm sorry that you are going through this and thank you for sharing with me, have they spoken about a cure? Please don't answer that if you don't feel comfortable and I'm sorry if it was to much of an insensitive question.

yeah I am going to call the doctors today and demand an ultrasound on my lymph nodes and get them to check the white patches aswell.

  • Good for you....don't let them fob you off and make sure you get seen.

I understand why you're so scared.....I don't have children myself and this treatment will make me infertile going forward but the thought of having any type of cancer is terrifying especially when children are involved. They caught it quite early so the chances of it being cured are really good although there is a risk of it coming back at some point down the road....but that's for worrying about at another time lol.

Let me know how you go on today.

    Xx

  • I will do!

i am so sorry if I have been insensitive for being so worried about something I don't know I have when your currently going through it, I am so pleased they have found it early enough to cure it! You deserve to have the longest happiest life, you seem like a lovely lady and incredibly strong!

how are you feeling with your treatment x

  • You haven't been insensitive! I don't mind talking about....it's a rare cancer so it's good to talk about it. The more people know about it the more they know what to look out for.

The treatment is going well. I'm doing pretty well with the chemo.....it makes me tired and my mouth is starting to get sore but so far I've not been particularly unwell. The radiotherapy side effects kicked in after about 2 weeks....I'm suffering a bit with them but the staff are brilliant and give plenty of advice and support.

    Keep in touch xx
