Breast lump

Hi

im looking for bit or support. Last week I found a lump in my left breast and panicked. So I've spent the last couple days in such a state of anxiety. I'm in late 30s.
I recently lost my auntie to breast cancer so still grieving and this has heightened all these fillings and not coping too well.

I went to mh gp today who said it felt like lumpy breast tissue but he was putting me on a two week referral.

Im still waiting on my app, but wondered if someone can please share their experience of what to expect at the breast clinic and if I might get an answers as to what it might be please?

thank you.

  • Hi Casey
With your appointment you will get full details of what to expect but you will probably have a Triple Asessment: examination, imaging (mammogram and/or ultrasound) and maybe some kind of biopsy. Then you'll probably have to go back for the results if you have a biopsy. Try not to worry as most lumps are found to be harmless. Take someone with you to your appointment for reassurance and support. I'll be praying that your appointment comes through quickly and that you'll be ok. Take care, Amy xx

  • Thank you Amy. I'm hoping I get my app soon. I can't help feeling the lump and starting to feel sore, so need to try and leave it alone. Thank you for you reply. X

  • Yes, I would definitely recommend you don't poke about the lump as that will only make you feel more anxious. And stay away from Dr Google. You would find lots of intimation there, most of which will be out of date or not applicable to you, again making you more nervous. Try to dwell on the positives: you've found the lump, you went to your GP, you got a referral, the NHS are brilliant and will take good care of you. Since my clinic appointment I've developed twinges and pains in all sorts of places and I know that's probably my mind playing tricks on me. My anxiety levels are all over the shop! You'll have good days and bad days. Keep busy, listen to calming music, go for nice walks if you can. It will all help. Let us know how you get on xx

  • Thank you Amy. I've had some aches in that breast too over last few months, but sleep on that side and often hold my kindle with that arm and my shoulder aches, so always put it down to muscular pain. But of course now, my thoughts are spiralling thinking it's something else. I need to try and get some sleep tonight as I'm useless at work at the moment and my head is all over the place with anxiety. So going to try and read or listen to music,
The fear ia so overwhelming isn't it.
I hope you are not waiting mich longer for your results?

thank you again for your support   Xx
