Terrified waiting for blood tests C-125

Hi,

Just been referred for blood tests for suspected ovarian 'disease', the waiting and overthinking for results is crippling, anyone else an over worrier .

  • Hi

Have a look at my post - my mum went through the same thing. Her ca125 results were fine but she still has a cyst they are unsure of whether it's cancer or not.

  • There are lots of people like you here, including me! The waiting and not knowing are just awful. Try to keep busy, go for a walk somewhere peaceful, help someone out, call a friend - any of these will help take your mind off the unknown and towards more positive thoughts. Im saying a prayer for you to have calm and peace xx

  • Hi,

Do you mind my asking how they knew your Mum had a cyst?

I've had the ca125 test and it was negative, as were all the other blood tests, but I still have symptoms, so just wondering if I should get back to the GP to ask for more, e.g. ultrasound.  I don't want to sound as though I'm paranoid, but obviously I want to get to the bottom of whatever is causing the symptoms.

  • What are your symptoms?

I'd definitely go back to the GP if your concerned. A blood test is only one test to help diagnose. Try not to panic - easier said than done I know.

  • Of course not!

She basically had pain in her right side, lower abdomen and back. She got sent away with a bacterial infection and antibiotics but the pain persisted. We then went back, Dr did a basic ultrasound and said he found a mass. We went and did a private ultrasound and TV that night, the sonigrapher found a 5cm complex cyst with solid components on the left and also found signs of a prolapsed uturus which was likely to be causing pain on right. Her MRI, CT and CA125 have come back fine but she still needs to have the cyst removed. The specialist did say that a CA125 can still come back fine if its early stages however. They are 50/50 on whether it is or isn't and she is waiting for a callback on Thursday. She will need to have the cyst removed and then sent for biopsy for 100% confirmation and may need a hysterectomy. I don't want to scare you, but if your Dr is fobbing you off please keep going back! X

  • Thanks.  I've been OK, but just today, have got a bit freaked!  I am being monitored regularly by an acupuncturist who is also a qualified doctor and who knows me well.  At today's appt. discussed possible ultrasound and/or colonoscopy, but will see how today's treatment pans out.  He's somewhat mystified as nothing really links up or adds up.  It all follows a longstanding UTI, which was finally cleared by antibiotics.

Trouble is trying to see the same GP as I spoke to before, who was really helpful.  Understood all the symptoms and arranged the very thorough blood tests,

  • That's really helpful.  Thank, you.  The GP isn't fobbing me off, but just hasn't said anything about a follow-up.  As I said in another post, I am being monitored by an acupuncturist who is a qualified doctor and keeps his qualifications up to date.  He knows me well and is mystified as my many and various symptoms don't fit any pattern.  They all followed a long standing UTI that was finally sorted with antibiotics.

We did discuss going back to the GP and mentioning an ultrasound or colonoscopy, but we'll see how the next week goes.  Having said that I may panic and ring tomorrow!!  The GP I originally spoke to was great so I want to try to get her again.

Thanks again for your quick and detailed reply.  All the very best to you and to your Mum.
