Very worried about ovarian cancer!

Hi,

I know this chat isn't about trying to get a diagnosis, I just genuinely am hoping someone might be going through something similar to me and have some advice.
I guess I should start by saying I'm only 18, with major health anxiety, but I'm extremely worried I have ovarian cancer.
I have been suffering from constant bloating for a few weeks now. I can't remember exactly when it began but today feels as though it's the worst it's ever been. I'm uncomfortable all day, especially after eating something, and it's consuming my every thought. Although I have been on laxatives during this time and this can apparently cause bloating, I came off them yesterday and yet the bloating is worsening. On top of this, I keep thinking I have the urge to wee more often although i don't think I'm actually going anymore than usual, I haven't had a period for over 2 months and have suffered some stomach pain and nausea. I was put on laxatives because I had rectal bleeding a few weeks ago due to a suspected anal fissure, and I thought then I had bowel cancer because there was constipation, bloating and nausea but now I think these could be ovarian cancer symptoms too, especially as I was still constipated on laxatives and I did stop bleeding. I've been to the doctors already but they completely dismissed cancer due to my age, which I kind of get, but it's also making me feel like cr** because no one is taking me seriously and I'm just going absolutely insane wanting to cry all day long. Even my family won't listen to me anymore. I really don't know what to do. Could my anxiety being making things worse?? I know my bloating seemed to get worse when I began fixating on it, and that stress can cause bloating and stop your menstrual cycles, and maybe it's part of coming off the laxatives as I took them for longer than normal, but I just don't know. The unknown is terrifying.

  • Welcome to the forum Lyla although I'm sorry for the reason you're joining us.

You've mentioned you have health anxiety and asked if this could be making your symptoms worse. As you'll see here, there is a possibilty that could be the case, but if your symptoms are persisting or haven't improved then it's best to go back to your GP as they are the only ones who can get to the bottom of this for you and put your mind at ease. If you have more than one doctor working at your GP surgery, you could try getting a second opinion from a different doctor.

Many of our members know how scary and frustrating it can be when you feel like you're not being listened to or taken seriously so you are not alone Lyla and hopefully some of them will be along soon to offer you their support and advice.

    Kind regards,
