So I saw a colorectal specialist today in regards to on and off bleeding I've had since last November and a positive fit test in June (all written on my page if anyone wants to read.) Anyway I was expecting to be examined and told that I would probably be given a proctoscopy as I'm pregnant and can't have any scopes until after I've given birth but he didn't do anything.
He asked me why I was there so I explained, he then flat out said that I don't have bowel cancer and that I'm more likely to be hit by a car then have it at 25 with no family history and only bleeding as a symptom. I showed him a photo I'd taken of what I believed to be piles that appear when I have a bowel movement and he confirmed that they were definitely piles and that is where the blood will have come from.
He also told me that my fit test had come back as 41 which is higher than I was hoping but he said he didn't understand why my GP had made me do one anyway as he didn't think it was helpful.
He ended by telling me to up my fibre intake and that if I'd like a sigmoidscopy when I'm 28 weeks pregnant to call and he will arrange one though he doesn't think its needed.
My partner, who was with me during the appointment, has said that I should feel reassured but I'm just not sure if I do. I keep going back over my fit test number and the fact he never actually examined me.
I also have symptoms now of low iron and even though I know this is common during pregnancy I'm scared it's actually because I have something sinister wrong me me.
I'm not sure what this post is for really, think I just needed to get it out of my head. I'd appreciate any advice or even just someone to chat to really.
