Swollen neck/lump

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone has been through the same.

I noticed a couple of weeks ago I had a lump/swelling on the right side of my neck just over from the front.

I went to the doctors and he said it looked fine and he's not worried, it seems to have came out of nowhere.

Hes referred me for a routine ultrasound and I've been told it could take up to 6 weeks to be seen .

I cant help but worry about it.

Thanks for reading

  • Aww least you have a earlier appointment my lump is firm too my biopsy on the lump actually come back indeterminate but I'd had a biopsy on my thyroid at the same time i asked the man doing the ultrasound if it looked like i had anything to worry about he said the lump looked like a cyst he also said I had something called goiter. My results took over 2 weeks weeks to come back and I was informed over a phone call that the biopsy results were suspicious and my lump was indeterminate the lady said I'd need half my thyroid removed going forward. 3 weeks later I went to see the thyroid consultant thinking it was to speak about the surgery to be told infact my biopsy results had been upgraded and I  have papillary thyroid carcinoma my full thyroid will be getting removed. I had a ct scan Friday gone to stage it and I've got to have another biopsy done on the lump a core biopsy this time last time was a FNA. My next biopsy isn't until 12th September so I don't think I'll get surgery until October time as I have a holiday the end of September. The waiting is the worst is seems like a very long process I wish you all the best and hope you get good news if you need to chat that's fine and please also keep me updated on how you get on.

  • Honey, I just wanted to say that I'm so sorry this has happened.  Most times we worry ourselves needlessly, but this time your persistence paid off.  I think you will find that they look after you beautifully.  My cancer nurses always say that if they go silent, I am not forgotten, they are working for me behind the scenes.  I do hope & pray that everyone finds this is so.  These things occur for no apparent reason, and have to be coped with.  Life doesn't stop & wait for us to catch up!  Fortunately there is much online info & support available.  The best advice I received was KEEP OFF GOOGLE!  Very best wishes to you, and everyone.

  • Mine is very firm sometimes but also sometimes softer but I'm assuming it's maybe where it's placed, gosh!! I'm so pleased your persistence paid off!

I'm so very sorry for all your going through though it must be such a scary time.

The waiting is definitely the worst part!!  The days feel like weeks, I have a 3 year old so she is keeping me busy at the moment.

Thankyou I appreciate that! Same to you please let me know how you get on! X

  • I have 2 children to they keep me on my feet. I've just had a letter I have to go in  on Tuesday to see my consultant looking like the ct scan is showing its spread so I'm gonna need a neck dissection to. My surgery has been booked for the 8th September the week I'm on holiday so I'll also be discussing this on Tuesday I had already told them I'm away but hey ho. Hope you keeping well .

  • Hi, I've had my ultrasound today.

My thyroid looks normal which Is good.

The lump/swelling is coming from tissue which he didn't seem concerned about but obviously explained that ultrasounds cannot see into the throat.

I've got to ring the doctors this week to see what they want to do next.

I feel abit more relieved that it's out the way and there was nothing that stood out.

    How are you doing? X

  • Aww that's brilliant news for you hopefully the lump is innocent too. I'm doing ok unfortunately my cancer has spread to my lymph nodes so my surgery will go ahead on the 8th. I had to reschedule our holiday which gutted me i felt bad for my kids but they have been so understanding about it all.

  • Aw im so sorry to hear that, sending you all my best wished for a speedy recovery after your surgery, please let me know how you get on x

  • sorry to hear that it has spread lovely, but glad your being seen to so swiftly.  youve pushed me to get a second opinion.  thank you x

  • Definitely don't let these gps fob you off hun if your worried about something always get a 2nd opinion, it took me 3 different gps in a space of 3 weeks before I was referred to ENT. My cancer nurse said I could have had it for a long time which is pretty worrying considering the only symptoms I've felt is fatigue amd dizziness which I put down to my iron and b12 been low and a cough and itchy throat that I'd put down to agyer effects of covid last year, if I had felt my lump I'd be none the wiser, Please keep me updated on how you get on.
