Sigmoidoscopy biopsy.

hi there. I am new to this site but just wanted to get advice. I have had blood in my stools for years. Intermittently. Had sigmoidoscopy about 6 years ago and just haemorrhoids found. Finally had another sigmoidoscopy yesterday although v painful so surgeon couldn’t complete. He found a growth on my rectum that he has sent for a biopsy and I am due to have mri scan in next couple of weeks.

I just feel so worried as I tried to probe him as to whether under his professional opinion he thought it was polyps or cancerous but he said he couldn’t tell. I guess I’ll just have to wait. I suffer with stomach pains for a long time and just worried. Any advice or anyone who has been through similar would be appreciated. Thanks

  • Hello Becboo7,

I just wanted to welcome you to our forum. I hope you won't have to wait too long for your biopsy results. I can imagine it must be a very stressful time for you while waiting for these important results and for your MRI scan in the next couple of weeks.

I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious. There are helpful tips on this page to help you cope while waiting for important news.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,
