Preventive surgery

Hi,

I am registered as a high risk breast cancer patient. I have not myself suffered from this. However, it's prominent in my family, around my age. I have had a few scares and biopsies, a false positive and constant stress.
I feel now would be the time to look in to prevention surgery and reconstruction.

what are peoples experience of this? And how do I start the process?

Thanks x

  • Hello Bex83

I can see from another post that you've made that you have an appointment arranged for July 16th regarding some more recent breast changes.

Do speak to your breast care team about your concerns and questions. They will be best placed to talk to you about your options for risk-reducing surgery.

I hope that the appointment goes well.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Bex83!
Sorry this reply is a few months after your post but i'm in a similar position and wondered whether you managed to find some further information about options for preventative surgery?

I too am high risk for BC - Both mum and nan had BC under 30... I'm 29 and just found 2 lumps - Looks like it's a lymph node but i've requested a re-scan and biopsy because i'm not 100% convinced it's ok just from an ultrasound - I need some further reassurance!

look forward to hearing from you :)

  • Hi JosQuarts,

I have a telephone consultation with a breast surgeon to discuss family history updates and possibilities. I lost mum 3 years ago, and my gran and aunts had BC too.

I've had biopsies before they do offer reassurance. Although I often feel anxious just thinking about the topic. I was 30 when my annual checks began, now I'm 40 and a little less conscious I feel now is the time to prevent no only cancer but my anxiety with all the constant changes.

I'll keep you posted about what they say.
    take care ♥️
