2nd cervix biopsy

Hi, I had a smear in October 21 with positive hpv and borderline cell changes. All my previous smears were clear but I'd had years of bleeding after sex and was initially told down to cervical erosion.  In October 21 I went for colospcopy and had 3 biopsies all came back negative. However consultant said he would do cryotherapy at my choice to help the bleeding. Had the cryotherapy in Jan 22 and few months later still bleeding. Had scans of uterus and ovaries all clear. Back to another coloscopy. This time he says a patch of whiteness is a lot bigger (he showed me pics has grown from about an eighth of size of cervix to about a quarter size of cervix between October and July. So he says a new biopsy needed. Now waiting results. Meantime had repeated bv and uti's totally miserable experience. Just wondering why he didn't tell me about the white patch after the first coloscopy and also why it came back negative 1st time when it has grown so quickly. Anyone else experienced this? Also does the size of the surface area of the abnormal cells make a difference to cin grading or is it how deep these cells reach into the cervix itself? Thanks

  • Hello Marden

I'm sorry to hear that your cervical screening results in October showed some changes and that since then things don't appear to have improved. It's understandable that you're feeling worried and have questions, particularly as your biopsy results didn't give any cause for concern.

Hopefully, you won't have to wait too long for the most recent biopsy results and the Consultant will be able to give you some clear answers and reassurance about things.

In the meantime, there's lots of information on the Jo's Trust website about cervical screening and cell changes. You may find it useful to have a look through some of their pages or maybe call their helpline for some support and information. Alternatively, you're welcome to call our nurses if you'd like to talk things through. They're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

I hope you have some answers soon.

    Best wishes,
