Ovarian Cancer

So I had a telephone appointment with my GP and advised that I am experiecing bloating whcih is unusual for me, I have PCOS diagnosed and bowel issues, his response? 'Ring back in 6 weeks if you're still bloated then'.  I raised my concerns as it says this could be a symptom of something being wrong with ovaries ie ovarian cancer and says to get it checked, he then replied with 'bloating has nothing to do with ovaries.'

I wasn't happy with this and the next day the receptionist called me regarding a medication query, I voiced my concerns to her and she booked me in with the nurse.

Had my appointment with the nurse who waas very understanding and did a urine test first with a rainbow coloured dipstick, she then referred me for an urgent abdominal, pelvic + transvaginal scan.

Went to the appointment and the sonographer started off around the tummy/ pelvic area she then said she couldn't see an awful lot so would I be willing to have a transvaginal scan - I said yes.

During the TV scan she asked me if I was bleeding to which I said no, when my last period was and when my next one is due, she was tapping away on the PC at times and also (what looked like) taking screenshots, this was Friday last week.

On Monday, the Dr's receptionist called, and said the nurse would like you in for a face to face appointment and provisionally booked me in for this Friday, I called back and clarified that if there was no further action or normal results then surely she wouldn't want to see me and that I will worry until Friday, is there anyway she can call me to go through the ultrasound results before Friday.

The nurse then called me back and advised, 'the uterus + lining look normal, no mass or fluid found in the pelvic area but there is a folicle on the left ovary' - I asked what a folicle is and she said it's like a cell and that my ovaries appear bulky so she is going to refer me for an urgent Gynae appointment.

Now bearing in mind it's plastered all over my medical records that I have PCOS so it definitely isn't a cyst - I just wonder if the terminology used 'folicle/ cell' is actually a 'mass/ lump/ growth' and if the 'bulky' ovaries are 'enlarged' which from searching online (I know we shouldn't) is a symptom alone for ovarian cancer.

I am now awaiting my urgent gynaecology appointment, anyone had a similar experience? What will gynae do next? A CT scan?

  • When they were checking my ovarian cysts l had a MRI, repeated ultrasounds to see if they had shrunk.

  • Had they shrunk?

I was in A&E with bowel issues and had a CT scan, they picked something up on the CT scan and referred me for another ultrasound, this was February this year.

Had an ultrasound and transvaginal scan, been to results app today and they said there's a larger "cyst" than any other on my right ovary, approximately 7cm.

The gynaecologist was great and has request the CA125 blood test which I've had done today and requested another ultrasound.

She said if the "cyst" is still there, is still the same size or larger then I'll need an MRI scan

Starting to worry a little thinking the gynaecologist who signed me off last year after a brief phone call, saying everything on the ultrasound was just a typical example of PCOS might have missed something.

I was advised there was a "folicle" on my right ovary last year which assuming it's the same one, as it's coincidentally on the same side has grown.

  • Hi my cysts were complex so solid and not fluid filled 6cm and 4cm they didn't shrink from  the colonoscopy at Christmas to the ultrasound in March when l was listed for removal. The surgery took 4 1/2 hrs due to the extensive adhesions around the left overy. Fortunately the multiple biopsies were benign.
l hope you find out what's causing your symptoms soon.
