thyroid surgery

Hi all just looking for some advice really so I found a lump in my neck which after speaking to 3 GPs I was referred to ENT clinic on a 2 week referral. The consultant checked me over did the throat camera and decided to send me for a ultrasound and biopsy which I went for a week or so later. It took a little over 3 weeks for my results to come back and I got a phone call to discuss as the lady said she didn't wanna delay anything going forward. My ultrasound showed a multinodular thyroid with a non tender firm node it was shown as a u3, my biopsy was thy4 so I know I need surgery. I guess what I'm asking is  has anyone else has these results from a biopsy but been given good news in the end.

  • Hello lump85 and welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry to hear that you found a lump that required investigation and that now you need surgery.

There is a number of members here on Cancer Chat who reported needing thyroid surgery so I hope some of them will come by soon to chat with you and offer advice. Also, if you click on the 'search forum' icon on the blue banner at the top and type keywords like 'thyroid surgery' you will be able to see past threads and respond to any that may be relevant to you.

The other thing I wanted to mention is that if you feel like speaking with someone with a medical background before your next appointment, our team of nurses will be happy to chat with you. They can be reached on this free phone 0808 800 4040 Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

I hope all turns out OK for you lump85.

  • Hi. I just wanted to see how you got on.   I was scanned via ultrasound for my supraclavcular area but instead they found multinodular goitre one my left thyroid.

    Hope your ok x

  • Hey I went to see the thyroid consultant a week ago and unfortunately I got told I have cancer. I had a ct scan done on Friday and I'm waiting to get a core biopsy on the 12th September, going forward I'll be getting a full thyroidectomy and possible neck dissection but I won't know for sure until the next set of biopsy results are back.

  • Oh bless your heart, not need you want to heat but I suppose the reassuring thing is, that something is being done about it quickly x

did you have any symptoms etc?    I'm due to have a Ct scan soon.   I've paid privately as I have BPD and get so anxious I couldn't wait.     X

  • What from I have read hun even if you pay for private the nhs will still want the same things done through them so you might be best saving your money.  Looking back my symptoms i have been getting breathless a itchy throat and cough which I did put down to me having covid last year so could just be a coincidence I have achy muscles but again I put that down to covid too I also get fatigue but I am suffering with low iron and b12 which I am taking medication for.
