Unusual Menstrual Bleeding

Hi Everyone,

I have had constant menstrual bleeding every day since May 2021, it has taken me until April this year to be taken seriously.
I had 2 ultrasound scans in April including 2 transvaginal and both came back as inconclusive (maybe a polyp) but they couldn't be sure.
The level of bleeding varies, some days it's just spotting, other days I soak through pads within a couple of hours.
Every few weeks I get the most intense cramps and I end up passing a few very large clots.
I usually pass several small clots everyday.
I have been referred to a gynaecologist but the appointment isn't until October.
I recently had a blood test and it has come back with elevated ESR levels of 37. I am aware that ESR is very non-specific but it has made me very worried about what could be going on.
I am wondering if anyone has any similar experiences?
I have just turned 30, as I know this can make a difference. All of my hormone levels have been checked and these all came back as normal. I have also had a recent cervical smear which came back clear.

  • Hello Rebeckii20,

Poor you, that is a long time to have been bleeding and it must have been frustrating for you not to be taken seriously for so long. I am glad that they are now looking into it properly as you can't live like this every day. It is a long time to have to wait until October. I hope that you will hear from other members of the forum who have had similar experiences and that they will be along shortly to share their story with you.

I am not sure what these elevated ESR levels mean but this is something you could perhaps ask your doctor about. It's reassuring though that your hormone levels and your recent cervical smear have come back normal.

I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious. As your appointment is not until October, you may have to wait a long time for definite answers and I thought I would share with you this page to help you cope while waiting for important news.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,
