Worried and waiting

I went to the GP with irregular and prolonged bleeding and was referred on the 2 week pathway for an ultrasound scan. The scan was just over 2 weeks later on the Saturday and showed the anticipated polyps but also an unidentified mass. The ultrasound was followed by a hysteroscopy where they were unable to remove the polyps. I was sent for blood tests for cancer markers and then an MRI on the Wednesday. I had a phonecall on the Friday to say my case was discussed in the MDT meeting and they wanted  a CT scan. That took place last Wednesay. I did have a letter following the colposcopy - large polyp, smaller polyps, fibroid and 7cm irregular loculated adnexal mass. I'm confused as to what that means and keep hoping that the fact the pace has slowed and lack of phonecalls means no cancer but how long do I wait before chasing for news and who do I even contact? Appointments have been at different hospitals

  • Hi Leni56,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I hope you're getting on OK - I can understand that the waiting and uncertainty is never easy.

Usually they would give you a rough timeline for how long to expect to wait - typically it is normal to hear within 1-2 weeks. You can always give your doctor or the hospital a call to check on this.

You may also find it helpful to talk things through with one of our nurses. If you'd like to do that, you can reach them on freephone 0808 800 4040 (Monday-Friday, 9-5).

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben

  • thank you for your response. I was expecting from what I was told to have heard by now but the CT scan was a week later than everything else so I assume those results were not back in time for the second MDT meeting. I have rung the first hospital now for an update as my last communication was a phone call on 22nd July and am waiting on a call back. Hopefully they will have all tests results back by now and the MDT will be tomorrow.
