Anxious about colposcopy results

Hello,

I had my first colposcopy today after having 3 smears that were HPV positive, however all three had no signs of abnormal cells. The consultant took a biopsy as he said there was an area that looked slightly different but said it was more of a precaution and that it should be fine, he didn't seem overly concerned. It's reassuring that I've had no abnormal cells and I had the HPV vaccine when I was 18 (I'm aware it doesn't cover all strains), but still I'm slightly worried

Has anyone had a similar situation to mine? I would love to hear what your outcome was.

Thanks!

  • Hi eves94. I came across your post after googling 'anxious about colposcopy result'. I had my first colposcopy and biopsy last Friday. I saw 2 gynae consultants on Tuesday who weren't happy with what they could see and having been booked so quickly for a colposcopy on Friday has made me panic as I thought the wait time was 4-8weeks for an appointment. I'm waking up at 3/4am every night and then end up reading about positive results on the internet which isn't helping, but the wait for results is stressful. I've been told 2-3 weeks for results. I'm 41 with 2 young children, it's frightening. I'm still bleeding too from the procedure (light pad) and some cramping in my stomach. Hope you're outcome means no further treatment and I would feel better if the consultant didn't seem that concerned, hopefully it's just precautionary.
