Abnormal Bleeding

Hey guys,

I feel quite stupid writing this as I feel I'm over exaggerating and causing a fuss. I'm 22 years old, I've had 3 children. I'm currently experience unusual symptoms and I'm quite concerned. I feel stupid going to my GP as I've gone to them so much already.. I'm suffering with abdominal pain in my left side whenever I walk, touch or even sit. I'm now experiencing bright red blood and also brown whenever I go to the toilet. I'm on the pill and I had a period 2 weeks ago yet this doesn't feel right to me.. I'm so scared and I don't know where to turn as I feel so silly probably worrying about nothing.

  • Hi, sorry that you're having these symptoms, you're not making a fuss and it is best to get checked about anything that's abnormal. I've had abnormal rectal and vaginal bleeding before and I know how alarming it is to see something out the ordinary. I've gone to the GP about it and they didn't find it silly at all. They're used to seeing patients with these problems.

In fact, when I first had a telephone appointment with a doctor about it, he told me to go in for a face to face appointment and booked me with a female doctor to be examined. I didn't know what to expect and was scared I'd be fobbed off.

Then I walked in and the first thing she said was 'you spoke to dr .. about your symptoms a few days ago, and I've read the notes about what you're going through, it did upset me' and I was so shocked thinking she must see patients with bigger problems. It was sweet of her to be empathetic about my problems.

I got referred afterwards to bowel and gynaecological specialists so I guess my problems were too big for GPs.
