I am sorry to hear your mum has been diagnosed with a 4cm growth in her bowel. It is possible that it is a polyp but they will be able to tell you more once they have done further tests and biopsies if necessary.
It's worth flagging with her doctor if you haven't done so already that she has the terrible indigestion you describe and that even drinking a cup of tea hurts her.
