Referred to haematology - Suspected lymphoma

Hello,

After a long 8 week wait I finally received the results of my lymph node biopsy, however the results were somewhat inconclusive. My GP explained that sometimes slow growing lymphomas can look like healthy cells, and so the conclusion that was decided was yes it could be lymphoma, but it could also not be lymphoma... I've been referred to haematology so they can run some extra tests and scans. Does anyone know what the rough waiting time for an appointment at the haematology department would be for suspected lymphoma? Also, are there specific tests/scans that I should be requesting? Would a CT scan/PET scan be able to help them either rule it out or confirm it?

Thanks

  • Hi there,

It's good to hear they are being thorough, although I appreciate the continued uncertainty must be difficult.

Waiting times will vary depending on factors like location, waiting lists, urgency, and so on, so it's not really possible to say - usually the doctor would give you an indiciation of how long you should expect to wait for the appointment.

The specialists at the department will do any tests they feel are necessary to get the information they need, so you don't necessarily need to request anything as such.

    Wishing you all the best,
