MRI report done but needs to be authorised?

Have a lump in my leg, was sent for an MRI, been waiting for results for 4 weeks now. Called radiology at local hospital who said the report is done, but needs to be authorised by a radiologist, however the person supposed to do mine is on annual leave so she said she needs to find someone else to do so. What does it mean it needs to be authorised? Surely they can just authorise it when they do the report? Just confused haha

  • Hi Jld21,

I'm not sure of the answer for sure, but it sounds like it could simply be a verification procedure, i.e. a second, potentially more senior, pair of eyes, to double check things. Hopefully it won't be too much longer until this happens and then you can get the information you need.

    Wishing you all the best,
