Groin pain, terrified of lymphoma

Hi I wondering if anyone can chat to me.

A month ago I started getting a pain in my left groin area around the crease and pubic bone. Ranges from a dull ache to stabbing pains. I left it for a couple of weeks and then I went to see the gp. He told me I couldn't possibly have lymphoma coz I had bloods a month before which were fine. I haven't found any lumps around there and the gp felt too said everything was normal. I can feel a chain of nodes on my inner thigh but they are the same on both sides and only pain on the one.

I requested a scan but he told me no, he said come back in another month and see then. I'm just sick of being in pain and worry everyday,  I use volteral gel it helps sometimes. I have done no injury.

I had also been having pains in both armpits in the few weeks before my groin pain started. Although I had an ultrasound on them and everything was normal and pains have gone now.

Since I had no swelling or other b symptoms, GPS not interested. I read a story on here a lady had pains like me for months before swelling showed up and she had lymphoma, groin pain was her only symptom.

The more time I waif and it continues it worries me even more, and feel like I'm waiting for more symptoms to show to be taken seriously.

An ultrasound is all I want to check the lymph nodes, I'm worried they are enlarged but not felt and are pressing on a nerve or something that's causing my pain. I'm also 21 years old.

Can anyone help me please. The gp didn't reassure me at all I've read on here lots of people still have normal bloods despite there being something wrong

  • I'm replying to your post because it's very sad that at the young age of 21 you are trying to prove you have cancer.  Searching this forum does not help when you are reading stories about being diagnosed, let me tell you the other story, I've been on here nearly daily since 2017 as my husband was diagnosed with cancer, he had no pain, no swellings and this is quite often the case with cancer, so the amount of posts over five years that I've read saying they think they had lymphoma is too many to remember but I do not remember one of thembeimg diagnosed with it.  Pain and lumps happen throughout our lives, it's part of getting older, to constantly check for lumps is not normal, Google will tell you what you want to hear and the GP is perfectly within his remit to refuse more tests, the NHS is under a lot of pressure and even if he did refer you for, sometime consultants are now able to reject that request if they consider it a waste of resources.  Maybe discuss with the doctor your health concerns so you can relax a little more.  Best wishes for your future, Carol

  • Thankyou for your reply, I will be going back in a few weeks to discuss it but in the meantime I just can't get the worry off my mind, the pain is always there. I'm considering going for a private scan I need to put my mind at ease. The gp did see I was really anxious but yes he did say I couldn't get a scan unless I had the pain for a lot longer or developed swelling. The longer my pain goes on the more I worry its something to worry about and its making me miserable. Sorry to hear about your husband i hope he is well now

  • It's not wanting to prove I have cancer, I want to prove that i don't and then I think I will worry less and my pains might improve. I felt massive relief in my armpit pains after I had a clear scan and the pains have gone, occasionally they come back but I know its nothing to worry about.

  • There are so many causes of groin pain, so please try and think positive,, it truly does help.  My husband died in January but having been given a 7% survival rate he stayed positive and lived for five more years.  Take care, Carol
