Waiting for results

Hello,

I had a biopsy last Sunday (17th) and was told I would get my results in 7-10 days (today is 6th business day so well within this time frame) however, at the time of biopsy they asked me for my phone number again and said they would call me regardless of outcome. Is this normal? Speaking to others who have had the same they've always been given a face to face follow up appointment before even recieving their results? Does the fact they want to just phone mean they do not suspect anything is wrong at all? I am still feeling sick with worry, I hate the wait!!

Thanks,

Sian

  • Hi Sian,

I am also waiting on biopsy results - I had a liver biopsy on Friday. The waiting is excruciating, my consultant usuallyphones me when he gets results or updates from the MDT team soi think it depends on how your consultant deals with things.

I hope you get an answer soon

  • It might mean they think the risk of a worrying result is small, but obviously, they don't know yet, so at most that would mean that it's a situation in which the number of people who get a positive result is small. More likely, though, it's due to something like covid where they don't want to be bringing people in any more than necessary. I don't think you can read anything into it.

It might also mean that even if they do find something, there is no urgency about doing anything. A colleague of mine had a mole removed and got a phone call basically saying, "we found one of the non-melanoma skin cancers, but it's no big deal. It's been removed anyway, so there's nothing else to be done."

  • Thank you so much for replying! I have never gone through anything like this before so I feel super anxious about it, even though it may be nothing! I hope your results are returned soon!

  • Ah okay that makes sense. I think my brain is in over drive having never had anything worrying before. So thank you for replying. You're right, my local hospital is riddled with covid patients again so probably is this!

Thank you very much for replying!
